RNA 10 Area. Steve Caulfield - Public Relations Officer.

Joined RN direct from School in 1974. I went to HMS Ganges for Basic Training as a 16 year old. Only comment from this at the same time - the Iranian Navy also sent their Officers to the same camp. I passed out as Captains Guard. After Basic Training Went to HMS Pembroke for Trade Training as SA ( Stores Accountant) What a Shock to the System being billeted in the Famous East Camp and Being put in the Cooks Mess. After Passing Examinations I joined HMS Pembroke as ships Company. First Chance to have Run Ashore and used to go to London to see Manchester United when they were playing in the Capital and meet up with friends from Home. Being Ships Company I also had the dubious Duty Watch at The Pembroke Club on the base at Chucking out time.
Due to Family problems and Girlfriend at Home I did no other service after this as a near 18 Year old had chance to leave the RN without having to pay myself out and took the option. I was glad of the experience and after a few months regretted my decision but such is Life. After Leaving the Navy Joined Danzas UK and still employed in the group after 27 years Service and now have reached the Position of Branch Manger. The Months in the Navy put me in Good stead for the rest of my Life .
